El Hadji Sy @ Veletržní palác

El Hadji Sy is an artist from Senegal, whose works in multiple directions including painting, cultural activism, curatorship, and performing. In his work he uses unconventional methods and materials, which helps him to sustain the title of one of the most prominent contemporary Senegal artists.


(He also created painted silk kites for the music video “Chimes of freedom” by the Senegalese singer Youssou Ndour)

In his artistic career  Sy inclines towards large-scale paintings, though his works also include  mixed media canvases, textile and silk paintings, glasswork and so on. As a curator he tries to help his fellow artists by organizing exhibitions, workshops such as Tenq 94 and Tenq 96, or establishing creative groups, bringing together artists from West and Southern Africa and Europe.
